Shang, born on the 8th of January 1980 is a transplanted New Yorker whose carefully nurtured evolution from stand- up comedy to socio-political satire gives heavy flight to the spoken and outspoken word.
Academically, Shang earned a Bachelor of Science in Business at the University of California, Berkeley from 1998–2002
This aspiring illustrator began his comedy career on a dare which gave him an edge and brought him to lime light. A friend bet him $50 to take the stage during open-mike night at a local comedy club. Shang Forbes won the bet, caught the comedy bug & quickly became an underground favorite with his dark, avant-garde, socio-political style.
Shang Forbes in no doubt has gained and cemented his position as one of the brightest African-American funnymen in the comedy business. His passionate & explosive humor has been showcased on "Politically Incorrect,” "NBC’s Comedy Showcase," Comedy Central's “Comedy Cabaña" & was also selected as one of the "Best of the Fest" on HBO's Aspen Comedy Festival Special. In addition, Shang Forbes has displayed impressive comedic acting ability as a series regular on the late-night laughfest "The Newz," & has guest starred on episodes of "The Jamie Foxx Show" "The Parenthood," & was co-host on "Russell Simmons One-World Music Beat." Most recently, Shang Forbes worked on a panel with MTV’s “Choose or Lose” & also is a regular commentator on Air America Radio’s “Unfiltered”.
He was a featured performer in 2007 at Montreal Comedy Festival. On January 28, 2011, Comedy Central Presents aired his first thirty-minute special broadcast on national television. In January 2011, he won top honors at NBC Universal's Seventh Annual "Stand Up for Diversity" comedy search, including a one-year talent holding deal with that studio.
Shang has also appeared on Comedians of Comedy, American Eagle's Campus Comedy Challenge, and Comedy Central's Live at Gotham.
Shang Forbes' first major debut CD entitled "SHANGRY!!” on Uproar Records was released in all major music stores to rave review.
